Sacrament of Penance

Program Overview

What your child should know for First Penance:

  • Memorize the 10 Commandments in order
  • Memorize an act of contrition
  • Memorize the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be
  • Know the 5 steps to a good confession
  • Complete pages 1-92 in Spirit of Truth textbook and turn in weekly assignments
  • Attend the parish First Penance Retreat
  • Successfully pass Confession Quiz with a score of 80% or higher
  • Be familiar with Confessional Procedure

 

Due Dates for First Penance 2020-2021:

Parents:

  • Register with the Religious Education Office.
  • Attend First Communion Parent Meeting: 9/28/20 7pm
  • Turn in a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate, the First Communion
  • Data Form & Letter of Intent to the Faith Formation office (not teacher) ASAP
  • Complete the parent/student Spirit of Truth pages 1-92 by 2/1/21. Turn in assignments monthly using the family file folder system in Ministry Closet
  • Assist your child in preparing for quizzes/tests and in committing the basic Catholic prayers to heart.

Students:

  • Complete the monthly quizzes
  • Commit the basic Catholic prayers to memory.
  • Complete the parent/student Spirit of Truth pages 1-92 by 2/1/21
  • Attend the First Penance Retreat on 2/27/21 or 3/6/21 9am-11:30am
  • Pass the Confession quiz by 3/6/21
  • Receive the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) on 3/16 or 3/20 10am
